Eugene Katsevman looking to the side

Competitor. Mentor. Choreographer. Community builder.

Eugene Katsevman’s competitive career with longtime dance partner Maria Manusova included eleven undefeated U.S. National Amateur Latin titles, World and British Open Professional Latin finals, a British Open Under 21 Latin title, and World Games gold.

Today, Eugene is a teacher, mentor, studio owner, and co-organizer of NYDF and LADF. He also serves as a judge at major national and international DanceSport events.

His work spans two studios, in New York and Los Angeles, and two competitions, NYDF and LADF. His students’ success stories range from happier dancing to national titles and world finals.

Teaching approach

Eugene’s approach to teaching is grounded in compassion. His own path has included mistakes and setbacks as well as achievements, giving him a perspective that helps dancers work through difficulties without judgment. He believes good dancing feels good, and happy dancers perform better.

He now works with dancers on technique, musicality, and performance through mentorship and choreography tailored to their goals. His students include national champions and world finalists.

Built by dancers, for dancers

Brooklyn DanceSport Club and New York Dance Festival grew from a question: what did he wish had existed when he was still competing? The aim was to create value and give thoughtful service, with the dancer’s experience at the center.

Eugene is a co-founder of Brooklyn DanceSport Club, with a community spanning New York and Los Angeles, and a co-organizer of the New York Dance Festival and Los Angeles Dance Festival. These projects bring dancers together for training, performance, and competition.
